Year 7 ‘Operation Christmas Child’ 6/12/2019

Over the past week, Year 7 students at The King John School, led by Mrs Copeland and Mrs Thoupos, have been filling shoe boxes with gifts for Samaritan’s Purse for the national ‘Operation Christmas Child’ event.

Today, the students delivered nearly 200 boxes stuffed with toys, clothes and other items to enhance the lives of those less fortunate to Samaritan’s Purse in Rayleigh. These boxes will travel across the world to children less fortunate in over 100 countries.

Mrs Copeland, Student Support Manager, said:

“I have been doing this project with the King John students for the last 6 years and every year I am so proud of how generous and dedicated the students are to this cause. Young people are often seen in a bad light and this is proof that they do care about others across the world. They raised all the money and bought all the items to go into these boxes. These students are fantastic ambassadors not only for the King John School but also the community.”

Barbara Townsend, area coordinator of Operation Christmas Child, said:

“These boxes are about to travel over one thousand miles, across the world to Belaruse. What we are, and what these amazing students are at King John School, is a cog in a huge wheel of love that is Operation Christmas Child.“
