The King John School

Silver Equality Award

Silver Equality Award

Thrilled to have made the Echo today with this wonderful story.

The King John School, part of @zenith_mat is proud to have been awarded the Silver Equality Award by Equaliteach. Over an 24 month period, students and teachers had to ensure that the school met a series of benchmarks that demonstrated the school’s commitment to Equality. This included demonstrating that Equality was embedded in lessons and in policies.

Over the last two academic years, the school has been working towards an Equality Award through Equaliteach, as part of their commitment to its Core Value of Equality. This award process involved staff at all levels and across all areas of the school, ensuring that there is equity and equality for all. Weekly meetings were also held with students to gather their views and work on key topics.

Mrs Goodwin, Zenith Trust Designated Safeguarding Lead said:

‘’This award is the culmination of several years of hard work across the school to ensure that Equality, which is of course one of our core values, is at the heart of everything we do. We are pleased to have been recognised for this award, as a result of the hard work from staff and students.

Whilst the bronze award would have acknowledged our existing work on Equality, the silver award we have now achieved allowed us to challenge our practices and thinking further, ensuring that Equality is truly embedded in all of our policies and practices including: ensuring students see a range of people reflected positively in all their lessons; our coverage of national events; ensuring that no group is disproportionately affected by decisions made by the leadership team; maximising the chances that every student can achieve highly, regardless of their background.”
