Co-Curriculum at King John School
The co-curriculum is an extensive and essential part of our offer. There are over one hundred clubs and activities running for students to take part in linked to every area of the curriculum and more. The breadth of our co-curricular offer supports our purpose of a quality education for all students. The co-curriculum is an entitlement for our students, key to promoting equity and our PRIDE values.
We expect all students in Year 7 to be involved in at least one co-curricular activity with the intention that they will then continue in subsequent years. At the start of year we have a “Clubs Fair” led by our sixth form students to show Year 7 all of the opportunities available to them.
Co-curricular activities are important to the growth and character development of our students. We see this growth in three phases through involvement in co-curricular activities
Key Stage 3 | Key Stage 4 | Post 16 |
Discover Participate Enjoy |
Develop Explore Apply |
Lead Model Contribute |
At Key Stage 3 it is our intention that all students can discover new opportunities to participate in and enjoy. As they move into Key Stage 4, having benefited from the co-curriculum, they can show how they have grown from these opportunities as they write their CVs, participate in mock interviews and embark on their work experience. By post 16 we expect our students to contribute to the co-curricular and take a role in helping to lead these activities.
Involvement in the co-curricular curriculum is tracked to ensure all groups of students participate and to reward participation. In year 7 we organize interviews around the Pride values with our students and discuss their involvement in the co-curricular and what they have taken from being involved.
