The Art and Design department is committed to present students with aesthetic and artistic experiences, alongside opportunities for self- discovery. In this way we hope to enable students to become reflective practitioners. Students of all abilities are challenged and encouraged to value learning and achieving through Art and Design. The commitment and motivation of the teachers helps nurture students’ confidence and enthusiasm to develop different aspects of their intellectual and practical abilities.
We have high expectations of our students so that with guidance, they are able to reach excellent results, regardless of academic ability. Students are provided with appropriate stimulus to enable them to experience success. We feel it is imperative to identify students’ needs to ensure that they all have a chance to succeed.
It is our belief that all students should be able to benefit from their art education. If this belief is to be realised and the level of achievement of all students to be improved, particular attention needs to be given to certain students who may find it difficult to realise their full potential.
The examination board OCR moderation report for Art and Design reported the King John Art and Design Department runs stimulating courses at G.C.S.E and A-Level, providing opportunities for students to fully demonstrate a range of creative abilities including displaying a strong and consistent ability to analyse contextual sources in the development of student’s own individual ideas and responses.
